The NYS Master Teacher Program and SUNY Buffalo State are proud to present Mentoring Pre-service Teachers, a one-day “intensive” workshop, with Cassie Goldman. Goldman will first describe her own journey from teaching students to teaching and leading other in- and pre-service teachers — using it as a template for how others might consider the transition. Then, as a community, participants will think about and share experiences related to:

• how teaching K-12 students and teaching one’s future colleagues are related but distinct endeavors
• how learning occurs for both students and teachers
• Revised NYS expectations for teacher candidates
• Shifting from the "observation" experience to meaningful, actively–engaging tasks
• Engaging your candidates in co-teaching

The event will be held in the Buffalo State Alumni Center on the corner of Grant and Rockwell in Buffalo NYS.

Cassandra Goldman's background includes teaching math for 15 years in a high school with severe emotional and behavioral disabled students. She currently teaches in at Forest Elementary where she has taught 4th grade and will be teaching in a K/1 8:1 behavioral classroom this year. As a NYS Master Teacher, Cassie led Professional Learning Teams focusing on mentoring and
coaching, and brings her years of experience in mentoring preservice teachers to the workshop.
