Graziela Rondon-Pari, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Modern and Classical Languages department, has received the Professional Development Award for October 2019. Dr. Rondon-Pari will be receiving $500 towards the Federal Court Interpreter Certification Test, which she will be taking on December 6, 2019 in Philadelphia, PA.
The Federal Court Interpreter Test is a Spanish/English proficiency test administered by the U.S. government every two years. The test has two phases: The candidate has to first pass the Spanish/English written test and two years later the Spanish/English oral examination is offered. There are currently very few federally certified Spanish/English interpreters in the United States. As I teach courses on English/Spanish interpreting and translation, obtaining this high credential would allow me to become one of the very few instructors in the U.S. training students to become Spanish/English interpreters.
