The annual English Education Spring Banquet is an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the many individuals who work to encourage and support the meaningful teaching of English language arts throughout our region and across the country.
We are excited to announce that Julie Gorlewski, department chair and associate professor of Teaching and Learning at Virginia Commonwealth University, will receive the 2018 English Education Alumni Award at the banquet. Dr. Gorlewski, former co-editor of NCTE's English Journal, received her degree in English education from Buffalo State in 1985. Dr. Gorlewski will deliver a keynote, "Agents of the State or Agents of Change? Teaching to Change the World."
Additionally, The Western New York Network of English Teachers will honor the recipients of the 2018 English Teacher Awards. These teachers have made an impact on the young people of our region by creating meaningful, engaging secondary English classrooms.
This year's award winners

Angela Waligora, Holland Central Schools, Early Career Award
Liz Lyons, Buffalo Academy of the Visual and Performing Arts, Experienced Teacher Award
